Cowandilla Out of School Hours Care provides quality care for all children in a safe, fun and comfortable environment. It is a not for profit service operated by the Cowandilla Primary School Governing Council.

We endeavour to provide an environment which replicates the children’s home, where every child is treated as an individual. We strongly value the relationships we develop with children and their families. We strive to develop a sense of community within our service, where children take an active role in caring for each other, assisting educators and respecting our equipment and resources.

We provide opportunities for children to engage in a range of physical activities, art and crafts, imaginative play, science activities, cooking and music and drama.

Our service has completed the mandatory Assessment and Rating process conducted by the Education and Early Childhood Services Registration and Standards Board of South Australia. This process has resulted in our service being awarded the rating of Exceeding National Standards. The service is staffed according to the ratios set by ACECQA. Our Director, Sean Jensen, has a Diploma in Out of School Hours Care as well a Diploma in Sport and Recreation and Coaching and Development. All our staff hold current mandatory reporting qualifications and first aid certificates, and regularly attend training and development.

For further information, you can read our Family Handbook, as well as our Enrolment Form .

We take an interest in each child’s academic and social-emotional development, and seek to implement and extend on the learning experiences which occur in the classroom. Homework is an important part of our daily routine and educators are available to assist children when necessary. We maintain regular communication with all of our students’ classroom teachers to ensure any additional needs are being met.

Snacks are provided for each session, catering for any dietary requirements. Cereal, toast, and juice, are offered in the mornings, and a variety of healthy snacks in the afternoons including fruit, veggies, pasta bake, sandwiches and homemade cakes.

Our Vacation Care Program includes at least two excursions. Previous activities have included visits to the movies, the Farm Barn, the Adelaide Aquatic Centre, the Marion Leisure Centre and the Maritime Museum. We also organise a number of incursions which in the past have included visits from the Guide Dogs, the Fire Brigade and various other fun activities.
