   Cowandilla Primary School

e-Learning

At Cowandilla School we use computers and other Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) as an important part of our educational program at all year levels.

The use of ICT for education is referred to as 'e-Learning'.

Through e-Learning, students have opportunities to:
  • Develop literacy, communication and information skills
  • Use technology in interesting and creative ways
  • Access and evaluate current information from a variety of sources
  • Experience a wide selection of information presentation styles - including movies, pictures and sound as well as text
  • Exchange ideas, understandings and information
  • Learn to use computers and other ICT responsibly

Our learning programs include specific teaching of skills and discussion of guidelines to empower students to become confident, responsible users of technology.

Our curriculum network is Mac platform. All the classrooms have computers connected to an Interactive Whiteboard (IWB) which is a large touch screen computer monitor that the whole class can see. The IWB can be used to operate all the programs available on the computer by using a special pen on the screen. Work can also be handwritten onto the IWB and saved.

In addition to the classroom IWBs, there are two in shared spaces - the Resource Centre and the Meeting Room. We have a computer room for whole class use and computers in the Resource Centre.

The Resource Centre is open daily during second break and students use the computers during this time for creating music (using Garage Band), taking and editing photos (using Photo Booth and iPhoto), playing games or completing work.
